WORCESTER, MA - Roy Samra and Rob LaPierre, owners of the Rob Roy Academy based in Worcester, announce the school's participation in a Cut-a-Thon to be held Thursday May 29 at each of their five campuses located in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In observance of National Missing Children's Day sponsored by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, students at each location will be cutting hair for men and women for the price of $5.00 with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the Center. "We consider this to be a worthy cause that deserves our best effort in order to support their programs," said LaPierre. "We are proud to once again join with other barbering and cosmetology schools nationwide to raise money for them," added Samra.

"We believe that volunteerism and community service are important to the success and growth of our students and the well-being of our community," stated Susan Derosier, Director of Schools. "One in five girls and one in 10 boys will be sexually exploited by the time they reach adulthood. In addition, one in seven kids will receive sexual solicitations online. With such staggering statistics, it is more important than ever that parents and guardians teach children how to stay safe. The NCMEC is an important resource in helping with this mission," she continued.

With over 2,000 children reported missing each day, another major focus of the Center is the recovery of missing children. Since its establishment in 1984, the Center has assisted law enforcement agencies with more than 127,700 missing child cases, resulting in the recovery of more than 110,200 children.

The students are providing haircuts for both men and women from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on a walk-in basis only. Rob Roy Academy campuses are located in Woonsocket at 800 Clinton Street as well as in Worcester, Fall River,Taunton and New Bedford, Massachusetts.
