Why Rob Roy Academy

Our Culture & Students

Here at Rob Roy Academy, we are proud of our diverse student population. We attract students from many different ethnic and financial backgrounds, and we all share our own unique life experiences. We offer a supportive, collaborative environment, and life-long friendships are often formed in our classrooms. Our programs are structured, hands on, but also textbook inclusive. There is always someone willing to help you along the way. From financial aid questions to extra help in the classroom, or learning about the latest in hair care products, our staff is there to lend a hand or an ear. That’s the Rob Roy way. We are committed to helping you learn in a comfortable, positive environment.

Rob Roy also encourages our students to participate in extracurricular activities. We host Barber Battles and Cosmetology Competitions – a fun and creative way to work on your skills, and we support charitable causes through fundraising cut-a-thons and other events.

Our History

Robert Lapierre and Roy Samra started their career as hairdressers with one salon in Worcester, Massachusetts. Through great customer service and professional skills their client base grew as the word of Rob Roy Salon spread, and soon a second salon would open… and a third… and a fourth…

But something bigger was happening. Rob and Roy always believed that proper education was an important factor in their vision of the perfect salon. With their extensive knowledge and expertise, they began holding weekly training sessions in their salons, helping others improve their skills and satisfy clients. These training sessions proved to be so important to Robert and Roy, and so helpful to the development of others, they knew they had found the other half of their calling. In 1979, they opened their first school, and Rob Roy Academy was born. Today, the Academy has four locations in Massachusetts, and one in Rhode Island, each adhering to their original vision of exceptional training in the beauty and the barbering fields.
